Paintings
The decorated fragments showing figures on a black
background, probably belong to a big rectangular panels outline, framed
by chandeliers with florid branches, with painted moulding top presenting
a birds' retinue and fasten animals.
Schematic vegetal motifs, on a vinacious red or brownish background,
are the most common representations. They are used to frame panels
and used as separation strips between panels.
There are fragments of the one sole identified ceiling in Conimbriga.
These imitate a coffered ceiling, painted on a white background. The
group of paintings imitating marble surfaces are from the House of
the Fountains, therefore it can not be earlier than the first half
of the 1st century.
