Roman and Indigenous
Deities
Roman Gods worshipped in Conimbriga were Jupiter,
Father of Gods, Liber-Pater, a vineyards-guardian, Apollo, a god associated
with the power of the physical and moral harmony; Mars, a war and
agriculture-god; Fortune, a fate-goddess; Minerva, a craft-goddess
also patroness of politics and war.
Some indigenous romanized deities were also worshipped, namely Aius
Rogatus and Remetes, who protected a building for public baths.
The Lares, were family guardians, community-guardians, e.g.:
Lares Lubanci, city guardians, e.g.: Lares Conimbricae;
road-guardians, e.g.: Lares Vialis, home-guardians, e.g.: Lares
Aquites, the House of Fountains guardians.
Genius was the deified spirit of a person, a place, a monument or
a city, e.g.: Genius Conimbriga.
