Building near the "Portas
do Sol"
Excavation:
The excavation of the zone E, by initiative of
Direcção Geral dos Monumentos Nacionais
cannot be dated with precision. It must
have begun after 1936, appearing already
represented in plans of 1962.

The remains located in the South end of the zone E, near the opening in
the wall that got the designation of " Portas dos Sol ", constitute a small
building (a litle less than 335 m2), incompletely dug , that seems to correspond,
in small scale, to the type of architectonic organization of the first phase
of the insula to North of the baths, composed essentially by an inner patio
of irregular plan, that one access led directly from the street, without
vestiges of doors or other formal entrances.
The patio of this building seems to have been roofed, its access being made
from East, through a kind of corridor to which opened several divisions,
one of them, placed to Southeast, in a raized level.
