The forum was the centre of the Roman city and the area where the largest and best efforts of construction and embellishment always converged. The forum of Conimbriga was built in the centre of the indigenous village around 15 BC, respecting its urbanism. However, it is not this monument whose remnants are most apparent and were put in evidence by the modern intervention, but rather the large sanctuary dedicated to the imperial cult that came to replace the older in the last quarter of the 1st century AD.
