Under the Trajan thermae are preserved many remnants of their predecessors constructed under Augustus. Especially interesting are the entry hall covered in white mosaic — it was undoubtedly the first example of the use of this technique in the city, a great future being preserved for it —, with a recessed area where a base is preserved that must have supported a large stone drinking vessel, and a large pool for cold water surrounded by porticos. For conservation purposes, the mosaic is normally kept reburied in sand. In the palaestra the excavation detected the vestiges of the pre-Roman village with constructions in adobe that extended from perhaps the 4th century BC until the date of the Roman construction. Between these constructions and those of the thermae, were located the foundations, partially excavated in the rock, of a large public warehouse constructed during the reign of Claudius.
