    House of the fountains

The House of the fountains is an exceptional architectural work that, such as we see it, is consistent with the remodelling of a former building, one of the first that the Romans built in Conimbriga that was dedicated to manufacturing and commerce. Between 120 and 150 of our era, the owners of the building demolished parts of it and built a magnificent, aristocratic house. At this time the basements, which functioned as warehouses, were filled in, although vestiges of them survived in the northern section because part of them were made use of in order to construct some latrines. The main axis of the house is made up of a large entryway, lined up with the axis of the central peristyle and with the large reception hall (the triclinium) that, in turn, had a large window that opened toward the garden that existed at the end of the house.
